My Badass Road Trip to California.
Part Three.
THANKSGIVING, AMERICAN STYLE.
San Francisco, CA.
When I was in San Francisco for the first time, before heading more south on my journey, Andy’s good friend,
Luc (who owns the iconic bar, The Robberbaron in SF), invited me to her house for Thanksgiving dinner. At the time, I wasn’t sure where I’d be on that day, but I knew this was an experience I had to have. Even though I had my Canadian Thanksgiving a month before, I wanted to see how Americans do their version.
I’m glad I made it.
As we rolled up in an Uber to her place - in your typical San Francisco house in a typical San Francisco neighbourhood (cue the Full House theme song) - I fell in love with Luc’s home instantly. It’s beautiful and cosy. And as for Luc? To someone new, she makes you feel welcome instantaneously. To be honest, I am a shy person and meeting new people can be a little intimidating. I only knew Andy. Yet, everyone was so wonderful and made me feel like I was a part of the family.
We ate, we laughed, and we told stories.
Dinner was amazing. So many delicious foods. Did you know mac and cheese is a traditional side dish for an American Thanksgiving? I had no idea! After dinner, we went to Marissa and Jake’s home to have our Thanksgiving desserts. The cool thing about this is that they live right behind Luc's place. It was pretty neat, going from one house to the next.
Again, we ate, we laughed, and told stories.
It was an amazing night. I didn’t want it to end. I’m super blessed to meet such wonderful people on this journey.
And Luc. I’ve only met her a couple of times. She is the kindest human. She is so loving, generous, thoughtful, loyal, gentle, and patient with those who need help.
The list goes on.
If you are ever in San Francisco, make sure you stop at the Robberbaron bar at 2032 Polk Street and say ‘hello!’
